Anticipation is building for the first full European summer tour from Satchvai, the celebrated collaboration of guitar titans Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. To stoke the excitement, the duo has just dropped their second studio single, a hard-hitting track titled “I Wanna Play My Guitar,” energized by the powerhouse vocals of rock legend Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Country Communion). The single’s release comes just a month before Satchvai‘s tour kicks off on June 13. You can listen to it down below.
This new song marks a dynamic shift for Satchvai, following their cinematic, instrumental debut “The Sea of Emotion, Pt. 1,” which was released in March 2024. “I Wanna Play My Guitar” injects a potent dose of hard rock, blues, and expansive arena energy into their growing catalog, showcasing a different facet of their collaborative genius. The track is described as a vibrant ode to the sheer joy of rock ‘n’ roll and the allure of the guitar.
Joe Satriani shared with Guitar Player, which premiered the single, how the track evolved with the input of his collaborators. “When I started writing this song, I had no idea how important the contributions from Glenn and Steve would be,” Satriani revealed. “What they brought to the track made it all happen.”
Complementing the single is a new music video directed by ZZ Satriani, son of Joe Satriani. The visuals aim to capture the palpable chemistry between the core Satchvai duo and Glenn Hughes.
The studio recording of “I Wanna Play My Guitar” features an impressive lineup of musicians:
- Glenn Hughes on lead vocals
- Joe Satriani and Steve Vai handling guitar duties
- Marco Mendoza on bass
- Kenny Aronoff on drums
- Eric Caudieux on keyboards
- With background vocals provided by Derek Day, Steve Vai, and Doug MacArthur.
This electrifying new single serves as a powerful preview for Satchvai‘s monumental European tour, which will see them performing across iconic cities and festivals from mid-June through the beginning of August.
For these live performances, the Satchvai touring ensemble will consist of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai joined by renowned drummer Kenny Aronoff, bassist Marco Mendoza, and the virtuoso guitarist Pete Thorn, forming a stellar quintet ready to unleash their combined musical force on European fans.
