Alice In Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell has released the official music video for “I Want Blood,” the compelling title track from his latest solo album. This visual offering arrives as Cantrell prepares for an extensive run of European tour dates starting later this month, followed by a newly announced U.S. leg in late summer, with rock band Filter supporting on all shows.
The album I Want Blood, co-produced by Cantrell and renowned producer Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, Melvins) at Barresi‘s JHOC Studio in Pasadena, California, showcases the legendary musician at his “most raw and resolute.” The record blends brooding melodies with his signature searing guitar work and introspective lyricism, and has garnered widespread critical acclaim. The Los Angeles Times praised its “heavy, nuanced songs,” while Kerrang! lauded it as a “thunderous solo album that you can file alongside his best work.” Revolver magazine, in a cover story, noted the collection “delivers weighty, slippery riff and the kind of memorable rock hooks he’s been creating since the earliest days of Alice In Chains.”
The album features a host of esteemed guest musicians, including bassists Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses) and Robert Trujillo (Metallica), drummers Gil Sharone (Team Sleep, Stolen Babies) and Mike Bordin (Faith No More), with backing vocals from Lola Colette and Greg Puciato (Better Lovers, ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan).
Beyond the standard CD, digital, and multiple 2LP vinyl variants, I Want Blood is also available as a deluxe spoken-word edition. This version features narration by Cantrell himself and contributions from Joe Barresi, engineer Maxwell Urasky, Greg Puciato, Roy Mayorga, Gil Sharone, Rani Sharone, George Adrian, Vincent Jones, and Michael Rozon. An accompanying animated video series for the album, created by Boy Tillekens, can also be viewed on YouTube.
