Oscar-winning actor and Thirty Seconds To Mars front-man Jared Leto, 53, is under renewed scrutiny after nine women shared accounts of behaviour they describe as “predatory, terrifying and unacceptable” in an Air Mail report published 7 June 2025.
The women say the encounters, some dating back nearly two decades, form a consistent pattern that often began with seemingly casual approaches in cafés, backstage corridors or social-media DMs before escalating to sexual overtures — in several cases while they were still minors.
One accuser recalls being 16 in 2006 when Leto allegedly grabbed her arm outside Los Angeles’ Urth Caffé, secured her phone number and then peppered her with explicit late-night calls. Model Laura La Rue says she was 16 when she met Leto at a 2008 charity gala; a year later, during a visit to his home, she claims he walked into the room naked and flirted suggestively. Another woman alleges that after months of texts that began while she was under-age, Leto exposed himself when she turned 18, forced her hand onto him and demanded she spit on him.
Several accounts converge around Leto’s fan retreats — most notably “Mars Island,” a three-day Croatian getaway that costs up to $6,499 and has been likened by critics to a cult. While the Air Mail piece offers no direct misconduct claims from the retreat itself, accusers say the events underscore an atmosphere in which young admirers are placed in close, quasi-spiritual proximity to the star. DJ Allie Teilz, now 29, reignited discussion last month when she resurfaced a 2012 Facebook post alleging Leto tried to force himself on her backstage when she was 17.
A spokesperson for Leto “expressly denies” every allegation, insisting that his communications “contain nothing sexual or inappropriate” and citing what they call a lack of contemporaneous complaints. They also describe Teilz’s recollection as “demonstrably false” and contend that La Rue later applied to be Leto’s personal assistant — a claim La Rue flatly rejects. The actor himself has not issued a personal statement, and no civil or criminal filings have been made public as of 8 June 2025.
