Jack Osbourne has officially clarified controversial comments he made last month regarding celebrities who publicly share their political opinions.
During the latest episode of “The Osbournes” podcast, Jack revisited a recent run-in he had with TMZ while visiting Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. In that initial street interview, he bluntly asserted that politically active entertainers “need to keep their mouths shut.”
Seeking to provide more context to his viewpoint, Jack offered a more nuanced explanation during the podcast broadcast.
“What I should have said is, ‘Just because you’re famous, it doesn’t mean you’re qualified to talk about politics.’ And that’s where I think the problem is,” Jack elaborated during the podcast.
He went on to detail his frustration with how the public often equates celebrity status with political authority.
“I think the general assumption is, Oh you’re famous, you have a platform, you must be intelligent… There are a lot of f**king stupid famous people with a lot of stupid ideas. And that’s my issue with it,” he added.
His mother, Sharon Osbourne, weighed in on the discussion, adding that many of the most vocal individuals in the entertainment sphere are younger. She noted that they do not necessarily have a lot of life experience yet, which directly affects how their opinions are digested and received by others.
The conversation then shifted to the broader landscape of the American political system. Jack pointed out the massive geographic and cultural scale of the United States, comparing it to continents like Europe that contain dozens of different cultures and languages within a similar landmass. Because of this, he questioned the severe limitations of America’s strict two-party system.
“The thing that frustrates me so much is, why should everything be the same in America? Why are you given left or right? For 350 million people were given two options to really align ourselves with?” he said.
Sharon acknowledged the sentiment, noting that there isn’t one particular political side that is right about absolutely everything. While she suggested that an ideal scenario would involve people taking the best ideas from both sides to meet in the middle, she quickly pointed out the harsh reality of the current political climate.
“And there is no f**king middle!” she declared.
To close out the segment, “The Osbournes” drew a direct parallel between the trajectory of politicians and entertainers, comparing a politician’s desire for power and personal gain to musicians whose motivations shift once they start making a lot of money.
