Jack Osbourne Reveals Family Has ‘A Really Brilliant Actor’ In Mind For Ozzy Osbourne Role In Upcoming Biopic

Jack Osbourne confirmed the Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne biopic is officially moving forward after years of development at Sony Pictures.

Ozzy And Sharon Osbourne Coming Home Documentary

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight‘s Nischelle Turner, Jack Osbourne shared a highly anticipated update regarding the long-gestating biographical film centered on his late father, heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne, and his mother, Sharon Osbourne. Serving as a producer on the film, he confirmed that the project is officially moving forward after years of active development at Sony Pictures.

”We are full steam ahead. We’ve been in development at Sony for a number of years now. The script is done. We’re just making some final tweaks and hopefully [we’ll] get a director attached pretty soon,” he revealed.

When asked about casting the demanding lead role of the legendary Black Sabbath frontman, Jack Osbourne teased that the production already has a specific, highly qualified candidate lined up. However, he noted that he must keep the actor’s identity strictly confidential for the time being to allow the studio to handle the official announcement.

“We do have someone that there’s been some communication with. I can’t really say who. Studios, they like to do the big reveals. But, yeah, we have someone in mind, a really brilliant actor. And yeah, we’re very excited if it works out the way we hope. If Hollywood approves and the powers that be give us the green light, then we’re ready to go. So it’s very exciting,” he explained.

Speaking during a May 12 livestream on his YouTube channelJack was asked by a viewer about the current status of the project. He confirmed that development is very much ongoing and that key pieces are now falling into place.

He responded: “I can tell you this: we are moving ahead. I was on calls today about it. The script is right there. We are good. This movie will absolutely happen.

“Realistically — I mean, look, we’re already halfway through ’26 — it probably won’t come out until ’28. But you never know. But, yeah, we’re full steam ahead. We’re about to start going out and getting a director attached. So, fingers crossed. I’m really excited. It’s, yeah, very much been a labor of love, of course. But, yeah, I’m excited — I’m excited for everyone to see this film.”

Jack recently joined The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan for an in-depth conversation on “The Magnificent Others” podcast. While they discussed everything from growing up in the spotlight to the massive legacy of Black Sabbath, the biggest takeaway was a concrete update on the highly anticipated movie about his father, Ozzy Osbourne.

Jack explained that he has found himself serving as the main bridge between the Hollywood production team and his parents, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne.

“We’re working on my dad’s movie right now, and I’m one of the producers on it. We’re doing it at Sony Studios. And I’m really kind of in the trenches with that. And it’s funny. Out of all the team assembled on it, with these amazing producers and directors and act[ors], whatever, I’m the least qualified, but everyone just comes to me. I’m the middleman for everyone because if they need questions for my mom or if my mom needs questions for them. So I’ve found myself in this position where I’m the middleman with it all, and I’m really enjoying the experience and just learning about it,” he said at the time.

He quickly noted the unique challenges of the film industry, simply adding:

“Movies, they’re different. It’s a different animal.”

When Billy asked whether any details about the biopic had been revealed yet, Jack confirmed that they are still figuring out the roster with Sony Pictures:

“Well, it was announced that we were doing it with Sony Pictures. We haven’t done announced the cast yet, ’cause we haven’t settled [on all of it].”

Perhaps the most exciting news for fans is the shift in the script’s focus. Jack revealed that the movie will no longer attempt to cover several decades of Ozzy‘s life. Instead, it will zero in on the chaotic and legendary transition period between his exit from Black Sabbath and the launch of his solo career, heavily featuring his romance with Sharon and his time with legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads:

“Initially it was gonna go from kind of my dad as a young man to the kind of mid-’90s, but we’re shrinking it down,” Jack revealed. “We’re doing a rewrite right now. In my perfect vision of it, it would be kind of tail end of Sabbath, him going solo. [Because] you gotta have the love story. And that’s kind of the main focus of the film, and all the craziness that happened in the early ’80s and Randy‘s [Rhoads, late Ozzy guitarist] tragic death. But, yeah, it’s an origin story.”

He had already addressed the project earlier this year during an appearance on Billy Morrison’s SiriusXM show Influenced, where he explained that the film had entered what he called a new phase after years of groundwork at Sony.

“We are in full steam in the next phase of development with this movie,” Jack said at the time. “That’s an acted movie that we’ve been developing with Sony studios for, like, six years already,”

Casting remains one of the biggest talking points surrounding the film, but Jack stayed cautious when asked about who will portray his father, Ozzy Osbourne, on screen. Still, he hinted that the team has already made a key decision.

“We have our decided pick, and I can’t say anything [yet], but it’s a phenomenal, phenomenal actor. We have a director attached, and we’re doing a rewrite right now.”

During the same conversation, Morrison suggested that Ozzy himself would have been eager to see the film completed, something Jack fully agreed with.

“Oh, he would,” he said. “And all he kept saying — I’d give him updates: ‘Oh, we met with this guy’, and ‘this is happening’. And he just would go, ‘I don’t give a s**t. Just tell me when it’s out so I can go see it.’”

The film, which is being scripted by Lee Hall (“Rocketman“), will reportedly focus heavily on the relationship between Ozzy and Sharon, featuring music from both Black Sabbath and Ozzy‘s solo career. Sharon has previously been adamant that this will not be a sanitized, “Hallmark” version of their lives.

“We don’t want it to be squeaky, shiny clean and all of that,” Sharon said in a past interview regarding the tone. “We’re not making it for kids. It’s an adult movie for adults.”

“I hope it will be a story that everybody can relate to,” Sharon explained. “You don’t have to be a fan of the music, because it’s a story about a survivor. No matter what life throws at you, you pick yourself up and you start again. It’s just an amazing story of overcoming everything that’s thrown at you in your life.”
