Following the passing of rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, his son Jack Osbourne has fiercely defended his father’s legacy against comments made by Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters. In a podcast interview, Waters dismissed Osbourne‘s music and legacy, prompting an immediate and scathing response from Jack via social media.
In an interview with The Independent Ink, Waters stated that he “couldn’t give a f**k” about Ozzy‘s music and that he “never did” care for Black Sabbath. He also made derisive comments about Ozzy‘s public persona, saying the rocker was “all over the TV for hundreds of years with his idiocy and nonsense.” These remarks came just weeks after Osbourne‘s death on July 22 at the age of 76 from a heart attack, with coronary artery disease and Parkinson’s disease listed as contributing factors.
The comments, which also included a jab about the Black Sabbath frontman’s on-stage antics like “biting the heads of chickens,” quickly drew Jack Osbourne’s ire. He took to his Instagram Stories to write: “Hey Roger Waters, f**k you. How pathetic and out of touch you’ve become. The only way you seem to get attention these days is by vomiting out bulls**t in the press.”
The verbal exchange brought to light a long-standing, if not widely known, history of animosity between the two rock legends. Ozzy had previously expressed his fondness for Pink Floyd‘s music, specifically calling “Money” one of his favorite rock songs. However, a 1970 review of the Black Sabbath track “Evil Woman” in “Melody Maker” showed Waters‘s disdain for the band’s sound, with him saying: “You keep thinking it’s going to start. You think that for the first minute, but then, if you are really perceptive, you realize it isn’t going to start, and that’s all there is.” Jack‘s fiery post also included a personal note, stating: “My father always thought you were a c**t. Thanks for proving him right.”
