South Florida fans of heavy metal legends Iron Maiden will have a rare opportunity to meet the band’s longtime drummer, Nicko McBrain, during an exclusive appearance scheduled for next week. McBrain will be visiting the Barnes & Noble in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday, December 13, to sign copies of the band’s definitive new visual history, “Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams.”
The event is set to begin at 2:00 PM. Organizers have implemented specific protocols for those wishing to attend. Fans must pre-register for the signing via TicketLeap to secure their spot. Furthermore, attendance requires the purchase of a copy of “Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams” specifically at the Fort Lauderdale Barnes & Noble location on the day of the event. The receipt for the purchase will be exchanged for a pass granting access to the signing line, with stock of the book expected to be limited.
“Iron Maiden: Infinite Dreams” is being billed as a “magnificent visual celebration” of the band’s first 50 years. Curated by Ben Smallwood and co-edited by Alexander Milas and Terry Burrows, the book offers an unprecedented look into the archives of one of Britain’s most culturally significant musical exports.
Organized chronologically, the tome traces the band’s trajectory from their earliest pub gigs in 1975 and their first record deal in 1979, through their rise to global dominance. It covers the creation and reception of landmark albums such as the self-titled debut, the 1982 breakthrough The Number Of The Beast, the stadium-filling Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, and their most recent double-album, 2021’s Senjutsu. It also looks ahead to the upcoming “Run For Your Lives World Tour.”
Beyond the music, the book documents the evolution of the band’s iconic mascot, Eddie, featuring exclusive commentary from his creator, Derek Riggs. It also details the band’s complex stage productions and massive logistical undertakings, including the “Somewhere Back In Time World Tour” of 2008, where vocalist Bruce Dickinson piloted the band’s custom Boeing 757, Ed Force One.
The release features contributions from the band members themselves, including an afterword by Dickinson and a foreword by the band’s founder and bassist, Steve Harris.
Steve Harris said: “I’ve been pleasantly surprised at some of the stuff that I’ve managed to unearth for this book. I knew I had kept a lot of things from the early days but they have lasted really well and the photography has brought them back to life. I hope the fans are going to love looking at all the stuff presented like this! It’s the right time to bring it all together for part of our 50th celebrations.”
The book includes rare photographs from renowned lensmen like Ross Halfin and John McMurtrie, alongside images of stage props, handwritten lyrics, and personal artifacts.
Tristan de Lancey, Creative Director at Thames & Hudson, commented: “Iron Maiden is an institution. Hailed as pioneers of British heavy metal in the 1980s, the band has come to embody a spirit of fearless creative independence and ferocious dedication to their fans that has won them a huge following around the world and across generations. With astonishing archival access and more meticulous, hands-on participation from the band than I ever thought possible, we have been gifted the tools to create something beautiful, comprehensive and unique which, I have no doubt, raises the bar for illustrated books in this music genre. Every page will surprise and delight its audience – just don’t expect metal fans to be the only ones who buy it!”
