Heaven Shall Burn‘s performance at Germany’s ‘Rock am Ring‘ festival last weekend was abruptly cut short when vocalist Marcus Bischoff suffered a sudden neck injury onstage. The incident occurred shortly after the band began their set, forcing an immediate halt to their performance and prompting a rush to get Bischoff medical attention.
Following their departure from the stage, Heaven Shall Burn issued a statement to their fans gathered at the Nürburgring festival grounds, expressing their dismay. “We still have no idea what just happened and we really want to tell you honestly what we know so far and what the current situation looks like,” the band communicated.
They confirmed that their performance had to be canceled “after only one song because our singer Marcus sustained a neck injury. He’s on his way to the hospital in these minutes to have things cleared up.” The band conveyed their deep regret at leaving the audience, especially after the rain, stating, “It tears us apart and above all it really hits his heart to leave you there after the big rain and the clearing evening sky. It was all set for a mega explosion of energy.”
The band emphasized that the lead-up to the show had been smooth, with Bischoff showing no signs of illness or injury during soundcheck or warm-up. They described the sudden turn of events as unparalleled in their career, adding: “We have never experienced anything like this and are devastated.”
Despite the setback, they conveyed profound gratitude for the support received from fans, adding: “But we are also absolutely blown away by your support, your understanding and your solidarity… We cry with sadness, but also with now bitterly experienced happiness to have such fans and supporters.”
The following day, Bischoff provided an update himself, revealing the cause of the problem. “As promised, I want to give an update on the situation. I was in the hospital last night and had a specialist examine me,” he shared. The examination indicated an undetected infection as the root of the issue. Unfortunately, this medical finding necessitated further changes to their tour schedule. “Unfortunately, this means we have to cancel our show today at the Metalfest in Pilsen and also the upcoming show with In Flames in Ljubljana next Tuesday,” Bischoff confirmed.
Despite the disappointment of the cancellations, Bischoff maintained an optimistic outlook, declaring, “This honestly hurts our hearts, and we will definitely be back as soon as possible! Yet, giving up is not an option! I hope I will be back with positive news very soon!”
Heaven Shall Burn is scheduled to release their new album, Heimat, on June 27th via Century Media.
