Wayne Lozinak, the long-standing guitarist for hardcore metal stalwarts Hatebreed, has offered a direct and reassuring message to fans regarding his health, less than two weeks after his brain tumor diagnosis necessitated his departure from the band’s European tour.
Taking to his Instagram on Saturday, June 28th, Lozinak personally addressed his current condition and the next steps in his recovery. “Hello everyone. Just wanted to first say, I’m feeling fine, and I’ve been back in the U.S. since last week,” Lozinak wrote. He confirmed that subsequent tests and an MRI conducted stateside yielded the same results as those in France, solidifying the diagnosis. “I have a benign meningioma in my head that needs to be removed!” he stated, outlining the immediate path forward. Lozinak confirmed he has “an appointment with a neurosurgeon this upcoming week,” adding with clear optimism: “and hopefully we can get the surgery scheduled soon!” He eagerly anticipates his return to the road “once everything is done and is safe to do so!”
The guitarist conveyed overwhelming gratitude for the support he has received since the initial announcement. “I REALLY want to thank everyone who has reached out to me, since we posted about it,” he expressed.
“It was overwhelming, the amount of people sending me well wishes, positivity and just the fact of being in your thoughts, was so appreciated!!! THANK YOU!!!” Lozinak also shared a crucial piece of advice for his followers: “…and if you feel like something may be off with your health, and you don’t feel like your ‘normal self’, it’s a good idea to get checked out! Might be nothing, but you never know!”
The initial diagnosis emerged on June 14th when Lozinak experienced mild symptoms at Download Festival. Out of caution, he sought medical attention in Lille, France, where a CT scan revealed the tumor. Further evaluation confirmed it to be a benign meningioma—a slow-growing mass believed to have been present for years. Hatebreed previously issued a statement expressing immense relief at this “best possible outcome” and affirming Lozinak‘s unwavering determination to rejoin the band.
In Lozinak‘s temporary absence, Hatebreed has continued its European tour, with touring bassist Matt Bachand stepping in on guitar, and Carl Schwartz of First Blood and Terror handling bass duties.
