Grammy-winning hard rock band Halestorm have premiered their powerful new single, “Darkness Always Wins,” today, April 22nd. Described as a “slowly building, cinematic hard rock anthem,” the track marks the band’s first new music release of 2025.
“Darkness Always Wins” serves as the lead single from Halestorm‘s forthcoming studio album, which is anticipated later this year via Atlantic Records. The band teamed up with acclaimed Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (known for his work with artists like Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile) for the new material. Further details about the album are expected soon.
Frontwoman Lzzy Hale offered a profound insight into the song’s theme, stating it reflects a stark reality rather than simple hope or despair:
“‘Darkness Always Wins‘ is not a song of hope, nor is it a song of despair,” Hale explained. “It is reality. History repeating. Evil prevails and the good depart first. But we are not doomed as long as we persist and keep our fires burning. The war may not be won in this lifetime. But our mission is to pass the torch so that those who follow have a light to fight with.”
Guitarist Joe Hottinger shared some background on the song’s creation and the collaboration with Cobb via social media:
“We wrote this down in Savannah, GA. It was the first song we wrote for what became the album. It was like a test session… we went down there to see how it was working with Dave Cobb. Wrote and recorded this in two days at his then new studio. It was the beginning of a beautiful relationship that turned into a beautiful album.” He added: “Can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve been up to.”
Fans will have numerous opportunities to hear Halestorm live soon, potentially including the new single.
