Gwar have launched a new fundraiser to support founding member Chuck Varga, the artist and performer behind the band’s long-running Sexecutioner character, as he continues his battle with cancer. Varga, who brought the role to life from 1985 to 2022, and his wife Bambi are facing mounting medical, financial and personal strain as they navigate this difficult time together.
The campaign, hosted on Gwar‘s website, aims to cover the growing costs tied to Varga‘s care — including cancer treatment, hospice care, specialized medical equipment and additional nursing support. It will also help the couple keep their Brooklyn apartment while Bambi has stepped away from her job to care for Varga full-time.
According to the band, the funds will help make sure Varga receives the care, comfort and dignity he deserves, while also easing the financial weight on Bambi as she manages the challenges ahead.
As part of the effort, fans can pick up exclusive Chuck Varga merchandise created specifically for the campaign, including a new T-shirt featuring artwork drawn by Varga himself. The limited-edition items give supporters a way to contribute directly while owning a slice of Gwar history.
In a standout offering, fans also have the chance to bid on the Sexecutioner’s Axe — the iconic weapon Varga‘s character wielded for nearly four decades. The one-of-a-kind prop is going to the highest bidder, with all proceeds going to Varga and Bambi.
Varga has been part of the Gwar family for more than 40 years, helping shape the band’s identity from its earliest days. As a performer, artist, creator and founding member, he played a major role in building one of the most distinctive and enduring acts in heavy music, leaving a lasting mark on fans and artists worldwide.
Gwar‘s Bob Gorman, who performs as Bonesnapper, paid tribute to Varga‘s impact.
