In a recent social media announcement made on May 18th, guitarist Kevin Quirion confirmed his departure from Florida death metal titans Deicide, bringing an end to his 15-year tenure with the band.
Quirion shared that he made the decision last month, citing a desire to step away from the demands of touring and dedicate more time to his family. Despite his exit from Deicide, he made it clear that he’s not leaving music behind entirely. Quirion plans to continue writing and collaborating with drummer Derek Roddy and bassist Sean Baxter under their original project, Council Of The Fallen.
His entire statement reads:
“So after 15 years I decided to leave the band last month. Mainly I’m just done with touring and would like to spend the extra time with my family. I will still be writing songs and have already sent some to Derek Roddy and Sean Baxter to release under the Council Of The Fallen name. There will be no labels or shows, just putting out EPs whenever we feel like it. It was nice meeting a bunch of fans, bands, promoters etc and I wish everyone the best. Got to go now. Look for a job and Roblox with my son……”
Quirion’s departure follows Deicide‘s recent withdrawal from the highly anticipated Exodus tour, which had been slated to begin last month. The band initially cited “scheduling conflicts” as the reason but later retracted the statement, leaving fans speculating. This recent lineup change has naturally led to questions about whether Quirion’s decision and the canceled tour are connected.
Despite these developments, Deicide shows no signs of slowing down. The band has already announced a Latin American tour alongside Behemoth for Fall 2025, though it remains to be seen how Quirion’s absence will impact their live performances and future plans.
Kevin Quirion joined Deicide in 2008 and has since been a key contributor to the band’s evolving sound, with his technical guitar work leaving a lasting mark on albums such as In the Minds of Evil (2013), Overtures of Blasphemy (2018), and the group’s latest effort, Banished by Sin (2024).
