A few months ago, Greta Van Fleet gave their fans a scare. Now they’ve given them an album.
Earlier this year, the Grammy-winning band unsettled followers with a cryptic “thanks for the wild ride” message that many read as a farewell. Those worries eased in May when the group resurfaced with the single “Play Your Games“, and any lingering doubt has now been put to rest entirely: the Michigan quartet have announced their fourth studio album, Palace For The People, arriving October 9 via Republic Records, and paired the news with a second single, “Saw You Stand.”
A ballad in the truest sense, “Saw You Stand” opens gently on piano before swelling into the soaring falsetto that has become Josh Kiszka‘s signature. It’s the more tender counterpart to the harder-charging “Play Your Games,” and together the two songs sketch the emotional range of what’s to come.
The band is wasting no time stepping back into the spotlight. Greta Van Fleet are set to christen the new era tonight with a sold-out show at Chicago’s Metro — a deliberately intimate setting for a group used to filling arenas, and a mirror to the one-night-only Bowery Ballroom gig they played in New York back in May.
Palace For The People was recorded in Tennessee in the spring of 2026 and co-produced by the band with Mike Elizondo, whose credits span Turnstile, Eminem and Fiona Apple. According to the four-piece, the record grew out of a rare, intentional stretch of time spent together away from the demands of touring and press, a break that, by their telling, only tightened their bond.
“We love each other just as much as ever, if not more, because we’ve got to spend quality time together off of the road,” says singer Josh Kiszka. “We’ve grown closer, and we have more to say and share than ever.”
Drummer Danny Wagner framed the band’s creative chemistry in simpler terms: “The minute the four of us step into a room with the shared goal of creating, there is very little that can stop us.”
The album’s title carries a story that reaches back several years. During their sold-out 2022 world tour, the same run that would later see them fill London’s Wembley Arena, the band headlined the city’s Alexandra Palace and stumbled onto the venue’s history. Affectionately known as “Ally Pally,” the Victorian landmark was originally christened “The Palace Of The People,” conceived not for monarchs or aristocrats but as a place where ordinary people could gather to “escape and wonder.” That idea stuck with the band, who began asking themselves what a palace for the people might mean in the present day.
For bassist and keyboardist Sam Kiszka, the answer turned out to be closer than expected. “I can’t tell you how many people have come up to me and said ‘This is my best friend. We met through your music or at your show,'” he explains “and we realized, the music is our palace!”
Guitarist Jake Kiszka, meanwhile, stresses that for all its rock-and-roll roots, the record is very much a product of the here and now. “As much as it is a Greta Van Fleet record and a rock and roll record at its core, in its heart, it’s a very modern record,” he says.
The album caps a lengthy stretch away from the stage. Before the Bowery Ballroom show in May, Greta Van Fleet, brothers Josh (vocals), Jake (guitar) and Sam Kiszka (bass, keyboards), plus drummer Daniel Wagner, hadn’t performed live since September 2024. The members kept busy in the interim: Sam and Danny played on Langhorne Slim‘s 2026 album The Dreamin’ Kind, Jake appeared as a club-band guitarist in last year’s Bruce Springsteen biopic “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere“, and his side project Mirador, formed with Chris Turpin of Ida Mae, released the EP The Gathering At Badon Hill.
Since emerging from Frankenmuth, Michigan, Greta Van Fleet have built a run of platinum-selling releases and global arena tours. Palace For The People is their first full-length since 2023’s Starcatcher.
