Next week, iconic punk rock band Green Day will receive one of Hollywood‘s highest honors: a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony celebrating the enduring legacy of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool is scheduled for Thursday, May 1st, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. PT.
Adding star power to the event, tennis icon Serena Williams and celebrated actor-producer Ryan Reynolds are set to deliver speeches honoring the band. Respected radio and TV personality Matt Pinfield will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the unveiling. Fans worldwide unable to attend in person can catch the proceedings via a live stream hosted on the official Walk of Fame website.
Green Day‘s star will be permanently placed at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, conveniently located near the landmark Amoeba Music store.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is honored to welcome Green Day‘s Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool to the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Green Day‘s music has not only inspired generations but also served as the soundtrack to our lives.”
This recognition underscores the band’s monumental impact since forming in Berkeley, California, back in 1986. With global record sales exceeding 75 million and a staggering 10 billion cumulative audio/visual streams, Green Day stands as one of the world’s most successful bands. Their journey includes five Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The band’s breakthrough came with the 1994 release of Dookie. Selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone, the album achieved Diamond status and is widely credited with revitalizing mainstream interest in punk rock, setting the stage for decades of success.
A decade later, Green Day reinvented themselves with the ambitious 2004 rock opera American Idiot. The album captured global attention, sold over eight million copies domestically, secured a Grammy for Best Rock Album, and even inspired a successful Broadway stage adaptation in 2010.
Green Day continues to resonate with audiences. Their 14th studio album, Saviors, released in January 2024, topped seven different Billboard charts and became their fifth UK No. 1 album, lauded by critics as a powerful return to form. The release was supported by the massive global “Saviors Tour” in 2024, considered the band’s biggest tour to date, where they performed Dookie and American Idiot in their entirety alongside new hits.
Acknowledged by outlets like Entertainment Weekly as “the most influential band of their generation,” Green Day‘s upcoming star ceremony celebrates their lasting contribution to music and culture, solidifying their place among entertainment legends.
