Green Day have opened a round-the-clock YouTube channel drawing on nearly three decades of unreleased footage.
“Green Day TV” went live at noon Eastern on Thursday (August 6) following a tease earlier in the week. It is free and runs continuously.
The stream cycles through the band’s music videos and live performances alongside archive material that has not been released before, footage shot in recording studios, on music video sets, on tour and backstage.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool are also using the channel for surprise drops, giveaways and trivia, and have said announcements about merchandise, tours and new music will surface there.
The band already has a conventional YouTube channel. This is a separate operation.
The stream’s first original programme is “Transmission Unknown“, a weekly variety show hosted by Cool and built around emerging artists.
Each episode combines live performances from acts the band selects, interviews, and original comedy sketches produced for the stream.
“Green Day TV” joins Green Day‘s Idiot Nation, the band’s curated punk channel on SiriusXM, which mixes their own favourites with rare recordings and stories from their career.
The launch lands eight days before Nimrods opens in theatres.
Written and directed by Lee Kirk with the band, the film follows three friends who drive to Los Angeles under the mistaken belief that their group is opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve. The premise draws on the band’s own years living out of a tour van.
Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman and Ryan Foust play the three. The wider cast includes Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Keen Ruffalo, Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Mckenna Grace, Fred Armisen, Bobby Lee and Sean Gunn.
Tim Perell produces for Process alongside Armstrong, Dirnt and Cool. Ryan Kroft and Michael Rapino for Live Nation Studios and Jonathan Daniel are executive producers.
Nimrods Original Soundtrack arrived last week on digital, cassette, vinyl and CD.
The 30-track set carries 22 existing Green Day songs plus new material and previously unreleased live recordings used in the film. It also features The Paradox, Ultra Q, Mckenna Grace and Analog Dogs, the fictional band at the centre of the story.
Green Day formed in Berkeley, California in 1986 and have released 14 studio albums, selling more than 75 million records with around 20 billion cumulative streams.
Dookie, released in 1994, went ten-times platinum in the United States and is widely credited with returning punk rock to the mainstream. American Idiot followed in 2004, selling over eight million copies domestically and winning the Grammy for Best Rock Album before a stage adaptation opened on Broadway in 2010. The band are five-time Grammy winners and Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees.
Their most recent album, Saviors, arrived January 19, 2024 and debuted at number one on seven Billboard charts, their fifth chart-topper in the UK. “The American Dream Is Killing Me” reached number one on Billboard‘s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart.
The tour behind it closed in September 2025 after two years, 106 shows across 88 cities and 33 countries, with more than 2.5 million tickets sold.
