From Berkeley Punks to Global Superstars

Formed in Berkeley, California, back in 1986, Green Day has become one of the planet’s best-selling bands. With over 75 million records sold globally and achieving 10 billion audio/visual streams, their influence is undeniable.

Their journey to superstardom exploded in 1994 with the release of their diamond-certified album, Dookie. Selling over 10 million copies, the album is credited with reigniting mainstream interest in punk rock and launched a career filled with chart-topping hits. Entertainment Weekly dubbed them “the most influential band of their generation,” while Rolling Stone noted their power to inspire countless young bands.

Defining Eras and Continued Success

In 2004, Green Day redefined their sound and captured global attention with the rock opera American Idiot. The album sold over eight million copies in the U.S. alone, earned a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, and was later adapted into a successful Broadway musical in 2010.

The band has consistently remained relevant. Their 2020 album, Father Of All…, debuted at No. 1 on multiple charts, including the UK and Australia. More recently, their 14th studio album, Saviors (released January 19, 2024), achieved multiple No. 1 debuts and spawned hit singles like “The American Dream Is Killing Me” and “Dilemma.” Critics praised Saviors as a powerful return to form.

Throughout their career, Green Day has also been a major live act, embarking on massive tours like 2021’s The Hella Mega Tour alongside Fall Out Boy and Weezer, and the recent globe-spanning “Saviors Tour” in 2024, which celebrated Dookie and American Idiot alongside their newer material, marking the biggest tour of their 30+ year career.
