Members of Sweden’s most influential melodic death metal bands—Dark Tranquillity, The Halo Effect, and The Crown—will join forces this December for a special charity concert honoring the late Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg.
The event, set for December 6 at Monument 031 in Gothenburg, Sweden, will serve as a tribute to the legendary At The Gates vocalist, who passed away on September 16, 2025, after a battle with cancer. He was 52.
The timing of the memorial is poignant, arriving just weeks after the 30th anniversary of At The Gates’ landmark album, Slaughter of the Soul, which was originally released on November 14, 1995. Organizers emphasized that the event will not feature standard full-set performances, but rather a collaborative celebration of Lindberg‘s immense impact on the “Gothenburg sound” and the global metal scene.
“November 14th marked 30 years of At The Gates‘ genre-defining Slaughter of the Soul. Sadly, Tomas “Tompa” Lindberg, the voice behind this timeless album, passed away from cancer on September 16th,” organizers said in a statement. “To honour his legacy, we invite you to a tribute night on December 6th… Special guests and friends — Dark Tranquillity, The Crown, and The Halo Effect — will perform in celebration of Tompa’s lasting influence and extraordinary life.”
All proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the Cancerfonden (Swedish Cancer Society) via the “Gardens of Grief” fund—a name referencing At The Gates‘ 1991 debut EP. The fund was established by Elis Markskog of Malmö Massacre.
The concert organizers clarified the intimate nature of the night: “Please note: This is a celebration of Tompa’s legacy, not full-set concerts. The goal is simply to gather friends, fans, and family to honour our friend.”
Lindberg‘s death in September sent shockwaves through the metal community. The vocalist had privately battled adenoid cystic carcinoma since late 2023. Despite initial hopes for recovery, the band confirmed his passing with a heartbreaking statement earlier this fall.
“Tomas passed away this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment. Despite intensive medical efforts, his life could not be saved,” the band wrote at the time. “Tomas – You were an inspiration to us all. A true friend, both compassionate & sympathetic. You will always be remembered for your generosity and your creative spirit.”
