French progressive metal heavyweights Gojira have released a stunning, professionally filmed live video for their track “Global Warming“. Captured during their December 10, 2025 hometown country performance in Lyon, France, the footage was directed and meticulously edited by Errick Easterday.
The Lyon concert was part of a broader French tour where frontman Joseph Duplantier was forced to temporarily put down his instrument. Following minor surgery on his right hand prior to the November and December 2025 run, the vocalist stepped away from guitar duties. To ensure the highly anticipated shows went on without a hitch, the band enlisted Greg Kubacki of the New York mathcore outfit Car Bomb to handle the intricate guitar parts. The successful tour concluded shortly after the Lyon gig, wrapping up in Strasbourg on December 12, 2025.
In addition to the new live footage, fans have plenty to look forward to regarding the follow-up to their 2021 studio album, Fortitude. During the 2025 edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival in the United Kingdom, drummer Mario Duplantier provided an update on the writing and recording sessions while speaking with Oran O’Beirne of “Bloodstock TV“.
“It took us a long time. We needed that time, I think, just to make sure we are all on the same page, make sure what is Gojira is bringing next is strong enough. Also, we don’t have that much pressure. We are not a young band anymore. We’re not like Sleep Token or Lorna Shore where the next album is so important. We’ve been a band for 30 years, so Gojira is already an established band. It doesn’t mean that we can be lazy — it doesn’t mean that — but it’s very crucial to take the time to bring something fresh and new and powerful,” he explained at the time.
He confidently added that the new record is firmly on track, emphasizing that they took the time to ensure the songs were powerful and smart, promising a 2026 release.
The band is currently riding the momentum of a monumental period of mainstream and cultural recognition. In February 2025, Gojira secured a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for their groundbreaking track “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)“. The song, which featured opera singer Marina Viotti, was originally performed during the unprecedented opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Positioned outside the historic Conciergerie, the former prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution, Gojira made international headlines by becoming the first metal band in history to perform at the Olympics.
Prior to their recent Grammy victory, the band had already earned three nominations, including nods for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album for their 2016 record Magma, as well as a Best Metal Performance nomination in 2022. Their previous full-length album, Fortitude, proved to be a massive commercial milestone in May 2021, debuting at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Albums chart and reaching No. 12 on the Billboard 200. The record enjoyed widespread international success without skipping a beat, achieving Top 10 chart placements across numerous global markets including France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Belgium, and Norway.
