Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi is featured on “Rocket,” the new single from British pop star Robbie Williams‘ forthcoming album, Britpop. The track showcases Iommi‘s signature guitar solo, complementing its anthemic chorus and driving drums.
The music video for “Rocket” was co-written by Robbie Williams, Karl Brazil, Tony Iommi, and Tom Longworth. In the video, Williams is seen in a punk-inspired outfit, complete with tartan trousers and a leather jacket, moving through London landmarks with a flash mob. Other scenes feature Williams and Iommi together in Iommi’s hometown of Birmingham. Behind-the-scenes footage from the video’s creation is available.
Iommi shared his thoughts on the collaboration: “What an honor to be featured on Robbie Williams‘s new single ‘Rocket’. A genuinely great guy with a very talented band… [And it was] a great pleasure to appear in the official music video for [the song].”
The Britpop album’s cover artwork pays homage to its title, featuring a painting of Robbie Williams in his iconic red tracksuit from the 1995 Glastonbury Festival, a significant moment during the Britpop era.
Britpop is set for release this fall via Columbia Records. It will be available in various formats, including CD, deluxe CD, cassette, alt cassette, and digitally. Signed bundles will also be offered for a limited time through the official Robbie Williams store.
Robbie Williams commented on the inspiration behind Britpop: “I set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995. It was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British music. I’ve worked with some of my heroes on this album; it’s raw, there are more guitars and it’s an album that’s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. There’s some ‘Brit’ in there and there’s certainly some ‘pop’ too. I’m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I’m excited for fans to hear this album. I also can’t wait to perform a song or two from it on my upcoming ‘Britpop’ tour, which I’m opening in the U.K., naturally.”
Fans now have the chance to hear “Rocket” live as Robbie Williams’ massive “Britpop” stadium tour, rebranded to match his album title, kicked off on May 31 in Edinburgh. The tour will continue across the U.K., Ireland, and major European cities, offering audiences their first live experience of his genre-blending new sound.
