Gibson Films announced a new limited series, “Iommi: The Godfather Of Heavy Metal,” which will chronicle the musician’s groundbreaking career. A new limited series is coming this autumn to Gibson TV. The series, from Gibson Films, chronicles how Tony Iommi became the architect of heavy metal.
It explores the story of an ominous new sound that emerged from the industrial heart of Birmingham, England, after the Summer of Love faded. Fueled by Black Sabbath‘s genre-defining riffs, this sound challenged the mainstream and quickly took over the world. The series showcases how heavy metal became more than just music; it evolved into a way of life, connecting millions of fans through a spirit of rebellion and a relentless sound that continues to thrive today. In a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk,” Iommi spoke about his work on the new collection of material, which had been temporarily paused. He stated that he had to stop working on the album to prepare for the recent Black Sabbath reunion performance.
“Well, at the moment, well, I was doing my own album until [the ‘Back To The Beginning’ event] came up, and then, of course, I had to stop and concentrate on [preparing for] the Sabbath [performance],” Iommi said. He added that he will now resume work on the record. “But I’m continuing next week on trying to finish off what I started with this album. And then who knows what I’m gonna do then? It’s great, really, ’cause if something pops up, I’ll do it, if I want to do it. So it’s a good thing.”
Iommi also revealed a shift in the album’s original plan, which was initially conceived as a fully instrumental project. When asked if the new record would feature guest vocalists, similar to his 2000 solo album, Iommi, the guitarist responded: “At the moment, no. I’ve got one singer on it at the moment, which I originally thought of different singers. But it started off as it’s gonna be an instrumental album, and it’s gone from I’ve got some instrumental stuff, but then I thought, ‘Oh, I wanna try it with a singer.’ And so that’s what I’ve been doing.”
