Shudder has released the official trailer for “V/H/S/Mixtape“, the ninth film in the found-footage horror series, which includes a new music video directed by Ghost leader Tobias Forge and a featured appearance from Gwar.
The anthology premieres on Shudder on October 9.
Each story in “V/H/S/Mixtape” is built around music and sound, with rhythm and audio used to haunt, possess and destroy the characters. The film mixes cosmic horror, psychological suspense, heavy gore and practical effects.
The four main segments come from four directors:
- Renee Zhan – “Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance“, in which a studio tries to revive a cancelled puppet show. The segment features original puppets built by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
- David Moreau – “Heartbeat“, following a group of urban-exploration YouTubers who become trapped inside a decommissioned military facility.
- Ernest Dickerson – “The Music Of Mr. Sze“, about a film student documenting a reclusive, tormented musician.
- RZA – “Death Tone“, in which a sound engineer follows his late father’s instructions to create the ultimate track.
Between the segments, the film runs music video interludes directed by musician and filmmaker Flying Lotus, who has contributed to earlier entries in the series. Forge provides a separate, new music video. The track has not yet been named.
According to Fangoria, Gwar host the film’s wraparound segment, which is presented in the style of MTV-era skits and includes additional music videos.
Forge previously co-directed Ghost‘s 2024 concert film “Rite Here Rite Now” with Alex Ross Perry. His contribution to “V/H/S/Mixtape” has been billed as his debut as a filmmaker.
The film is produced by Josh Goldbloom, Steven Schneider, Roy Lee, Michael Schreiber and Brad Miska, with Ben Ross and Rami Yassin serving as executive producers.
“V/H/S/Mixtape” follows last year’s “V/H/S/Halloween“. Shudder says that film became the most-watched exclusive film premiere of 2025 across Shudder and AMC+, and brought in the service’s biggest weekend of new subscribers that year.
Shudder is available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and releases around 30 original films a year. Its catalogue includes “La Llorona“, “Mad God“, “Skinamarink“, “When Evil Lurks“, “In A Violent Nature” and “Late Night With The Devil“.
