Ghost Release ‘It’s A Sin’ Cover On Streaming Platforms

Ghost quietly bring their “It’s A Sin” cover to streaming, years after it appeared as a ‘Prequelle’ bonus track.

Ghost Philadelphia 2025

Ghost have quietly added their long-circulating cover of Pet Shop Boys’ 1987 hit “It’s A Sin” to streaming platforms, giving the track its first proper digital release years after it initially surfaced. What may look like a simple catalog update is framed within the band’s ongoing lore as a calculated move carried out by their displaced former frontman, Frater Imperator.

According to Ghost’s internal narrative, Frater Imperator was effectively sidelined following the rise of the group’s current figurehead, Papa V Perpetua. With his role reduced to clerical and administrative duties within the band’s fictional hierarchy, the former vocalist is said to have taken advantage of a technical loophole to push the track into circulation. Alongside the release, the band have also shared a stylized, retro-themed lyric video that leans into that tongue-in-cheek mythology.

The Swedish occult rock outfit first recorded the cover during sessions for their 2018 album Prequelle, where it appeared as a bonus track rather than part of the main tracklist. That same release cycle also included a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Avalanche,” which, unlike “It’s A Sin,” has yet to receive an official streaming release.
