Guitarist Galder (real name: Tom Rune Andersen Orre) has departed from Dimmu Borgir after almost 25 years with the band.
In a statement released yesterday, Galder disclosed that his final show with the black metal giants occurred on August 17 at Dynamo Metal Fest in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
He explained that, after years of careful reflection, he decided to leave the band to concentrate on his other musical project, Old Man’s Child.
He wrote in a statement: “Yesterday I played my last show with Dimmu Borgir. After almost 25 years of making music and playing with Dimmu Borgir I have decided to leave the band.
“I have been thinking about this for years and as many of you have been pointing out – it’s time for Old Man’s Child to get on stage again and finalizing new album.
“I with the best for the other members of the band moving forward. –G“
Galder co-founded the melodic black metal band Old Man’s Child, releasing one EP and seven studio albums with them between 1994 and 2009.
In an interview in early 2011, Galder mentioned that his primary focus was on Dimmu Borgir‘s current tour.
However, he hinted that once the world tour concluded, he planned to begin writing music for Old Man’s Child, with the potential for an album release in 2012. This, however, never materialized, and the band entered a prolonged period of inactivity, during which Galder continued to concentrate on Dimmu Borgir.
In December 2019, the band was revived, with Galder sharing a video on Old Man’s Child‘s Facebook page, showing him working on new material for the first time in over a decade.
