Joining the global chorus of tributes to the late Ozzy Osbourne, the rock band Fozzy, fronted by wrestling superstar Chris Jericho, has released a surprise cover of the iconic anthem “Crazy Train.“ The new recording serves as both an “ode to the life and legacy” of the recently passed rock icon and a celebration of the 45th anniversary of his groundbreaking debut solo album, Blizzard of Ozz. You can listen to the cover down below.
The band, which also features Stuck Mojo guitarist Rich “The Duke” Ward, announced the new track on Monday, September 15, in a heartfelt social media post dedicated to the Prince of Darkness.
Their full statement reads:
“Our cover of ‘Crazy Train’ by the legendary Ozzy Osbourne is officially out NOW on all streaming platforms.”
“OZZY FOREVER!!”
“Our ode to the life and legacy of Ozzy in celebration of the 45th anniversary of the release of the ‘Blizzard Of Ozz’ (released [in the U.K.] on September 12th, 1980).”
The tribute from Fozzy comes in the weeks following Osbourne‘s passing on July 22 at the age of 76. The rock and roll pioneer died just 17 days after delivering a final, triumphant performance at the “Back To The Beginning” concert in his hometown of Birmingham, England. That historic show on July 5 saw the reunion of the four original members of Black Sabbath for the first time in nearly two decades and featured Ozzy performing from a now-iconic, bat-adorned throne.
According to a death certificate filed in London, Osbourne died from a heart attack at his Buckinghamshire estate, with coronary artery disease and his long, public battle with Parkinson’s disease listed as contributing factors. Following his death, his life was celebrated with a massive public funeral procession through the streets of Birmingham on July 30, which was attended by thousands of fans and his family. He was laid to rest in a private, star-studded ceremony at his home the following day.
