The conversation surrounding Bad Bunny’s performance at Super Bowl LX continues to dominate the news cycle, and an unlikely name has entered the chat: 80s hair metal legends Ratt.
During Monday night’s episode (February 9) of “Gutfeld!” on Fox News, host Greg Gutfeld offered his own critique of the halftime festivities. While discussing the backlash to Bad Bunny‘s set—which was performed primarily in Spanish—Gutfeld suggested that the NFL should have looked to the Sunset Strip for entertainment instead.
“Instead of Bad Bunny, I would have liked Ratt,” Gutfeld declared to his panel.
The suggestion was met with a brief silence from the studio audience, prompting panelist and former WWE wrestler Tyrus to chime in with support: “That’s a good group though.” Meanwhile, fellow guest and former MTV VJ Kennedy broke into an impromptu, high-pitched rendition of the band’s hit “Round and Round.”
Realizing the joke might not have landed with the crowd, Gutfeld quickly pivoted.
“I’m just trying to think of other rodents. Alright, we’re moving on,” he said, steering the segment forward.
Although Ratt has been on hiatus since 2022 and hasn’t released a new studio album in 16 years, the band’s classic lineup vocalist Stephen Pearcy remains active on the road. Pearcy caught wind of the name-drop on cable news and took to his social media channels to share his thoughts.
“Thought you’d get a kick out (of) RATT being mentioned as a Super Bowl halftime show replacement,” Pearcy wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “It’s nice to see love for the ’80s!”
Pearcy’s post ignited a wave of support from fans who are eager to see rock and metal return to the Super Bowl stage. Several users responded to the singer, arguing that a throwback performance would be a welcome change of pace.
“At minimum, it would introduce our youth to something other than the same sh**ty bands we’ve been force fed for the last 30 years,” one fan replied.
Another user took a swipe at previous pop performers, specifically Lady Gaga, who made a guest appearance during this year’s show after headlining in 2017.
“I would love an ’80s hair metal-themed halftime show! Ratt fits the mold. Way more than Lady Gag Me!!”
