After decades of eligibility, Iron Maiden will officially enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. The induction honors the group’s classic lineup alongside crucial former members, including late frontman Paul Di’Anno and 1990s vocalist Blaze Bayley, who fronted the heavy metal institution on the albums The X Factor and Virtual XI.
Speaking with Metal Hammer, Bayley expressed his disbelief and gratitude regarding the career milestone.
“It’s crazy, really!” he stated. “When I started out, I just wanted to be like Ronnie James Dio, and Dio is in the Heavy Metal Hall Of Fame and so am I. The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is another level entirely, it’s not really ‘rock’n’roll’ as we think of it, it’s the music business hall of fame because it has everybody. So it’s absolutely wild!”
He continued: “I’ve had so many messages saying congratulations. It’s a really big deal for a lot of people; for me, I just feel so lucky to be considered in the same breath as some of the other artists on there. Multi-platinum artists! It feels like a real privilege to be nominated.”
The band’s relationship with the Hall of Fame has historically been tense. Vocalist Bruce Dickinson previously dismissed the organization as an “utter, complete load of bollocks” in 2022, while bassist and founder Steve Harris admitted in 2023 that he had “never been bothered with it.” Despite these past reservations, longtime manager Rod Smallwood issued a gracious statement following the official 2026 announcement.
“We’d like to thank the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for including us (and former members who were all part of our story) in the 2026 roll call of inductees,” Rod Smallwood wrote at the time. “Iron Maiden have always been about our relationship with our fans above anything else, including awards and industry accolades. However, having said that, it’s always nice to be recognised and honoured for any achievements within the music industry too!”
The 2026 induction class features a diverse roster of artists, including Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Oasis, Joy Division / New Order, Rick Rubin, Sade, Wu-Tang Clan, and Queen Latifah. The official ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a broadcast planned for Hulu and Disney+ in December.
The Hall of Fame nod coincides with Iron Maiden‘s massive 50th-anniversary plans for 2026. The schedule includes a multi-day festival at Knebworth in July, where Blaze Bayley is slated to headline the opening night on July 10.
The group’s “Run For Your Lives World Tour” will resume in May, crossing Europe and the Americas before wrapping up in Yokohama, Japan, on November 25. The band has indicated that the Yokohama concert will mark their final live appearance until at least 2028.
