Former I Prevail vocalist Brian Burkheiser claims that a “dispute” with his old band is preventing him from releasing new solo music. In a recent statement, Burkheiser, who handled the clean vocals for the band from 2013 until his departure earlier this year, said he is being “blocked” from releasing his new song, “Phases.”
Burkheiser’s public announcement was made via his social media accounts, where he wrote: “Due to an unresolved dispute with my former band I Prevail, I am being blocked from releasing my song ‘Phases‘, as well as other new music.” He expressed his disappointment with the situation but assured fans that he is working to move things forward. “I’m deeply disappointed, but I’m doing everything I can to move things forward,” he wrote. “I want to thank my family, friends, and most importantly, my fans for their unwavering support.”
Burkheiser‘s departure from I Prevail was announced in May, with the band stating that they were “mutually parting ways.” However, Burkheiser later took to social media to clarify the circumstances of his exit, claiming that he “didn’t deserve how things went down” while also maintaining that there was “no beef” between him and his former bandmates.
Burkheiser had been unable to tour with I Prevail for some time due to his battle with Eagle’s syndrome, a condition that causes chronic throat and neck pain. In his absence, co-vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe took over the majority of the singing duties, with some help from guitarist Dylan Bowman. Burkheiser publicly praised Vanlerberghe for stepping up and even encouraged fans to support the band’s recent tour.
I Prevail is currently preparing to release its fourth studio album, Violent Nature, which is set to come out on September 19. The band has not yet issued statement on Burkheiser‘s recent claims.
