Deathcore band Elysia are grieving the loss of one of their own. On the evening of July 30, the group shared the heartbreaking news that guitarist Danny Lomeli has died.

In a statement posted to their social media, Elysia paid tribute to their friend and bandmate, remembering both his role in the band’s recent return and the bond they shared:

“We are so sorry to announce the sudden passing of Elysia guitarist, Danny Lomeli. It can’t be put into words how much this hurts and how much we will miss him. Danny first joined the band in 2007 and we’ve all been inseparable friends with him ever since. He was an integral part in the reformation and reunion of the band. He put so much work into making it come to fruition and he loved each moment with every fiber of his being.”

Danny, this new reality of life without you is terrifying and heartbreaking. We are so grateful for the incredible new memories that the Elysia reunion allowed us to make with you. The past year+ of relentless practicing, shows, and hanging out has been an unforgettable blessing. We’ve all wondered what the big meaning was to our reunion, what it represented, and what impact it would have on the band’s legacy. It turns out, none of that really matters. It was all just so we could spend more time together and feel so much more closer to you. That’s enough reason to do anything. We love you, Danny.”

“Please out of respect to us, his friends, and family, we ask for privacy and understanding during this time. His family has started a GoFundMe for afterlife costs and memorial services.”

Lomeli joined Elysia in 2007 and, as the band’s message makes clear, was central to bringing the group back together for its most recent chapter.

Based in Shingle Springs, California, Elysia first came together in 2003, when its members were still in high school, originally performing under the name Elysium’s Revenge before settling on Elysia. Across their run, which has spanned a few separate active periods, the band released two full-length albums and an EP and completed a pair of U.S. tours. Their second album, Lion Of Judas, arrived on June 10, 2008 through Ferret Records. The group later reissued a remastered version of Masochist in May 2024, complete with bonus tracks and an accompanying interview with vocalist Zak Vargas, before reuniting once more for the run of shows and rehearsals that the band now remembers so fondly alongside Lomeli.

In keeping with the band’s wishes, Lomeli‘s family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover his final expenses and memorial arrangements.

Metal Stop extends its condolences to Danny Lomeli‘s family, friends, and bandmates in Elysia during this difficult time.
