Days after returning to the stage with their new human drummer, the Foo Fighters have released a clever, AI-assisted promotional video to tease an impending tour announcement. In the clip released Tuesday night, the band advocates the “100 percent real, raw, human element of rock ‘n’ roll” while being presented as distorted, uncanny AI creations, complete with extra fingers and other visual glitches.
The humorous video, which suggests a major tour announcement is imminent, features each member of the band discussing the importance of “real music.”
“It’s been a while but I’m happy to announce that Foo Fighters are coming back to bring you that 100 percent real, raw, human element of rock ‘n’ roll,” a slightly distorted Dave Grohl says, before displaying a fake setlist written in nonsensical AI-generated text. The clip ends with a simple, promising message on screen: “Stay tuned… there’s more to come!”
The ironic teaser comes on the heels of the band’s successful return to the live stage for two intimate California shows last weekend. Those concerts marked the official debut of their new drummer, Ilan Rubin (formerly of Nine Inch Nails), who joined the band this summer.
The video, which is posted down below also includes Ilan Rubin playing drums with 10 hands.
At the first show in San Luis Obispo on Saturday, Grohl gave his new bandmate a powerful and official welcome from the stage.
“Everybody else has said it. I finally get the opportunity to say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome…’ The most badass motherf**ker, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters right now. It’s official. You can stamp the passport,” he declared.
The new video is a clear and creative signal that the band is ready to announce its next major move. While a handful of international dates in Asia and Mexico are already on the books for the fall, fans can now expect a full tour announcement from the Foo Fighters to be, as the video promises, “impending.”
