Evan Seinfeld says Biohazard deliberately copied themselves on Divided We Fall, on their producer’s advice.
Evan Seinfeld has said Biohazard made no attempt to move forward on Divided We Fall, and that the instruction to sound exactly like themselves came from the man producing it. The bassist and vocalist told Remzi “Jam Man” Yates of “Rocking With Jam Man” that he had been overthinking the record until Matt Hyde put a stop to it.
Asked whether anyone had ever flagged an idea as too close to the band’s own past, Seinfeld said the opposite was true.
“No, absolutely not. We were intentionally copying ourselves. Our producer, Matt Hyde, literally said that. ‘Cause I think — I can’t speak for the other guys. I know I was overthinking it a little bit in my head, like, ‘Okay, we’re back together. We have to make our jump to light speed here or something.’ And he was, like, ‘Bro, you’re f**king Biohazard. Make a f**king Biohazard album that sounds like Biohazard, that the Biohazard fans will f**king love,'” he explained (as transcribed by Blabbermouth).
Seinfeld said the touring that preceded the sessions did much of the work, because of what the band had chosen to play.
He said: “We were fortunate, ’cause we were on tour and played about 150 shows around the world, Europe, South America, USA. We were touring with Megadeth, playing f**king festivals with f**king Iron Maiden and Metallica and playing on hardcore shows with Agnostic Front and the Cro-Mags. It was f**king awesome. And because we had just put the band back together, we decided only we were gonna play songs from the first three albums that the original lineup, the O.G. lineup, played on. So we, were, like, in this mode from just playing songs from the era of 1987 to 1994. So this was, like, the sweet spot of Biohazard. And Matt Hyde was, like, ‘You guys are icons. You have the right to copy yourself. AC/DC and [The] Rolling Stones do it in their own way.’ And once that became clear, oh, I was copying the f**k out of myself. We all were. And that’s why it’s, like, our best album in f**king 35 years.”
Divided We Fall came out on 17 October 2025 through BLKIIBLK, eleven tracks across 38 minutes, and is the band’s first record in thirteen years, following 2012’s Reborn In Defiance.
Hyde, whose credits take in Slayer, Hatebreed and Deftones, produced, mixed and mastered. Sessions ran at Shorefire Recording Studios in Long Branch, New Jersey and The Hydeaway in Van Nuys, California, with Joseph DeMaio engineering and additional recording by Hyde. Phil Caivano handled guitar and production tech duties.
The lineup is Seinfeld, Billy Graziadei on vocals and guitar, Bobby Hambel on lead guitar and Danny Schuler on drums, the four who came back together in 2023, opening Milwaukee Metal Fest for their first show in over a decade.
The album was followed by a 23-date North American run opening on 3 October 2025 in Pittsburgh, with Onyx, Bayway and Swollen Teeth supporting and a Brooklyn homecoming at Warsaw on 28 October.
