A concert by legendary guitarist Eric Clapton in Madrid came to an unexpected and unsettling end after an object thrown from the audience reportedly struck the rock icon onstage.
The incident took place on May 7 at Movistar Arena during the closing moments of Clapton’s performance. Fan-filmed footage that has since surfaced online appears to show the 81-year-old musician walking across the stage moments after finishing “C**aine,” the classic track originally penned by J. J. Cale, when an object suddenly flew toward him from the crowd.
According to reports, the item was a vinyl record sleeve, which appeared to hit Clapton directly in the chest. Following the incident, the show reportedly ended immediately, with no encore performance.
Fans watching the footage quickly expressed frustration and disbelief over what happened.
“Very sad image today in Eric Clapton concert in Madrid,” the account Value Pond wrote on X. “Some guy threw something to EC at the end, ending with no encore.”
“Very sad indeed,” another fan replied, sharing video of the incident. “What kind of idiot does that?”
