Electric Callboy have put their vocals to one of anime’s best-known instrumental themes. “You Say Run (10th Anniversary Ver.)“, credited to composer Yuki Hayashi featuring the German band, is out globally today through Toho.
The track had its live debut two days earlier, on Sep 20, at My Hero Academia IN CONCERT in London.
The collaboration started with Hayashi, who wrote English lyrics for the anniversary version. Toho‘s music team then went looking for international performers who could deliver both heavy shouts and melodic singing to match the series, which led them to Electric Callboy. Kevin Ratajczak and Nico Sallach handle the vocals, with the band’s electronic and pop hooks built over Hayashi‘s original orchestral arrangement.
“We are beyond excited to have this opportunity to add our vocals to ‘You Say Run,'” Ratajczak said.
Sallach added: “The melody of ‘You Say Run‘ is so powerful and uplifting—we just absolutely love this song! Working on this track was pure fun, and it was a huge honor to collaborate on it. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it! We really hope you’re as excited for it as we are.”
Hayashi said: “I am deeply honored and thrilled to share this special sound born from the intersection of our shared energy.”
He also said of the release: “I truly hope the song crosses borders and genres, reaches as many hearts as possible, and resonates passionately with everyone. And while the track is absolute perfection, the cover art is top-tier too!”
The artwork he mentions is a new illustration by Bones Film showing Izuku Midoriya mid-Smash, made as a nod to the cover of the anime’s first-season soundtrack.
“You Say Run” first appeared on that soundtrack in 2016 and became the music most closely associated with the show’s fight scenes. It also spawned a long-running internet joke, “You Say Run Goes With Everything”, in which fans edited the track over unrelated footage.
The release is part of the My Hero Academia The Animation 10th Anniversary project, which runs through the rest of 2026 with further announcements to come, and continues into 2027. The anime has run to eight seasons, more than 170 episodes and four feature films. Kohei Horikoshi‘s original manga finished in August 2024 after selling more than 100 million copies worldwide.
Electric Callboy released their seventh album, Tanzneid, in August. It entered the German album chart at No. 1, the second of their records to do so, and they toured Japan behind it at the end of that month. Their best-known songs include “Hypa Hypa” and “RATATATA“, recorded with Babymetal.
