Boston Celtic punk veterans Dropkick Murphys have revealed a fiery new music video for their politically charged track, “Citizen I.C.E.“. The scorching anthem, which features hardcore act Haywire, was released last month in direct response to the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE officers, as well as the ongoing civil unrest in Minneapolis.
Rendered in a gritty, black-and-white aesthetic, the new video captures Dropkick Murphys and Haywire performing the track with relentless energy in an intimate club setting, surrounded by a chaotic flurry of moshers.
The visual concludes with a passionate speech from frontman Ken Casey. Taking the opportunity to call out the silence of major acts while praising the underground scene for taking a stand against ICE and the Trump administration, he specifically highlights bands like Haywire, The Aggrolites, Slugger, and Juicebox, all of whom make appearances in the video.
“We just want to quickly say, while a lot of the larger punk bands in the world aren’t speaking up and are choosing to stay silent, punk rock is actually meeting the moment. You got plenty of bands willing to say something, still willing to fight for what’s right. […] Keep fighting the good fight, everybody. Let’s f**king go!”
“Citizen I.C.E.” serves as the lead track for the band’s upcoming split album with Haywire, titled New England Forever.
