Metal queen Doro Pesch is preparing a deeply personal tribute to her close friend, the iconic Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, with a new album titled Rock to Death, set for release in September 2025. In a recent interview with The Metal Voice, Doro revealed the album will feature a with mountain of previously unreleased material, including alternate versions of her duets with Lemmy.
“I want to do something for Lemmy because it would be his anniversary,” Doro explained of the project (as transcribed by Metal Addicts). The album aims to compile all their collaborations, such as their renowned duets on “Love Me Forever” and “Alone Again,” alongside Doro’s own renditions of Motörhead classics including, of course, “Ace of Spades” and “Rock and Roll.”
The most exciting revelation for fans will be the inclusion of never-before-heard tracks. Doro shared a story of a remarkable find: “It was funny-I went to the studio and I was checking out all kinds of bags… underneath my bed there was a bag. And I didn’t even think of it; I didn’t open it for a long time. And that day, before I went to the studio, and I opened that bag, and there were all these CDs, and all our mixes like the two duets I did with Lemmy in LA, actually. Bob Kulick-he was recording everything it was his studio-and I found all these unreleased tracks.”
She elaborated on the nature of these discoveries, stating: “So this record will have a lot of unreleased mixes and tracks and um stuff you already know but it’s different versions. Alternate takes, alternate mixes because when we did our first duets ‘Love Me Forever’ and ‘Alone Again’ man I think we had 10 mixes and we couldn’t decide which one was the best.”
Adding an incredibly unique touch to the tribute, Doro plans a special collector’s edition vinyl. “I want to put out a vinyl and then a, um, a liquid filled vinyl with you know with Lemmy’s favorite drinks: whiskey and cola. So it will be probably Jack Daniel’s cola in a liquid filled vinyl,” she said with enthusiasm. “We are just, uh, checking it out how we can do it and I think there’s a way-we found a company. So that’s something really special so you know and you can actually put a little hole in it and then check it out-it’s definitely Jack Daniel’s and cola.”
In related news for Lemmy and Motörhead, a long-lost recording capturing the very first session of the band’s seminal “Three Amigos” lineup—Lemmy, guitarist Fast Eddie Clarke, and drummer Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor—has surfaced. Titled The Manticore Tapes, this historic recording from August 1976 offers a raw glimpse into the band’s formative moments at Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Manticore Studio. The release is set to coincide with Motörhead’s 50th anniversary in 2025.
