A recent interview with Sharon Osbourne has ignited a firestorm of speculation within the heavy metal community, as fans work to identify a mystery band that was removed from the lineup of Ozzy Osbourne’s upcoming farewell concert. While no official confirmation has been made, online theories have increasingly pointed toward thrash metal legends Megadeth.
The rumors began after Sharon Osbourne spoke to Louder Sound about a major conflict she had with an unnamed band’s manager regarding the “Back To The Beginning” celebration for Ozzy and Black Sabbath.
“I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath,” Sharon revealed. “And it was probably the worst way I’ve felt in years. And I don’t care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn’t know me. And he’s now going around making up bulls**t lies because I threw his band off the bill.”
Sharon made it clear that her decision was personal, not political. “I don’t care what people say. Because do you know what? I don’t love them,” she stated. “I care about people who love me, what they say about me. You can’t care what an industry says, because you don’t love them, so how can it hurt you? It doesn’t.”
Following the interview, fans on platforms like Reddit immediately began trying to solve the mystery. With bands like Iron Maiden and Tool reportedly not the band in question, many theories have coalesced around Megadeth.
“Anyone else think that it’s NOT Megadeth?? I mean it’s gotta be Megadeth, right?” one Reddit user posted. Another added: “I bet it was Megadeth. I remember seeing the poster and thinking like from the era that they’re grabbing bands from why aren’t they grabbing Megadeth?”
Some fans have speculated on the potential source of the friction, pointing to the recent announcement that former Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson will be part of the event’s “supergroup” performance. “Well Dave Ellefson, ex-Megadeth bassist, was announced a while ago. So maybe he was added to piss off Dave Mustaine?” one commenter suggested, alluding to the well-documented animosity between the two.
As of now, the identity of the removed band remains unconfirmed by the Osbourne camp. With the historic farewell concert just a few weeks away on July 5, the speculation adds another layer of drama to the highly anticipated event.
