Deftones have sent their dedicated fanbase into a frenzy of speculation following a mysterious visual displayed during and after their London concert at Crystal Palace Park on Sunday, June 29th. The enigmatic graphic, featuring the phrase “private music” alongside the Roman numerals “X.VII.MMXXV,” strongly hints at the imminent arrival of new material from the acclaimed band.
The cryptic message has prompted widespread discussion among fans and media regarding its interpretation. While “X.VII.MMXXV” could potentially signify an album release on October 7th, 2025, many believe it points more directly to a new single dropping on July 10th, 2025. This latter theory gains traction as new music is often released on Fridays, and July 10th falls on a Friday this year. The same distinctive circular symbol seen in the graphic has also appeared on the band’s official website, further fueling the mystery.
This highly anticipated new output would mark Deftones‘ first release since their critically acclaimed album, Ohms, in 2020. Frontman Chino Moreno had previously hinted at the album’s progress, stating in a December 2024 interview with Billboard Español that their next record was “getting very close to being ready,” though a hoped-for single release around their February North American tour did not materialize.
The band is currently wrapping up their European tour dates, which conclude on July 6th. Their recent London performance occurred just one day after their last-minute cancellation at the Glastonbury Festival. During the Crystal Palace Park show, Moreno candidly confirmed to the audience that he was the bandmember affected by the health issue that led to the Glastonbury withdrawal, though he did not specify the nature of the problem.
Following their European engagements, Deftones will embark on a North American tour kicking off on August 22nd.
