Deftones Chino Moreno Live 2025

During their recent concert in Vancouver, Deftones paid tribute to former Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, who died last week in a motorcycle accident. Before performing the song “Entombed,” Deftones frontman Chino Moreno dedicated the track to his friend. You can watch the video down below.

“Yo, I wanna dedicate this song to a very dear friend, Mr. Brent Hinds,” Moreno said to the crowd.

The tribute comes just one day after Mastodon‘s own emotional performance at the Alaska State Fair on August 22, which was dedicated entirely to Hinds. Drummer Brann Dailor spoke to the audience about their grief and thanked them for making the show possible.

The relationship between the two bands goes back years, as Deftones and Mastodon have previously toured together.

The Vancouver show marked the beginning of Deftones’ extensive North American tour, which coincides with the release of their new album, private music. The tour is also scheduled to include appearances at several festivals.

The performance of “Entombed” was particularly notable, as the band had not played the song live since 2017. Deftones recently performed a livestream on August 21 where they played some of the tracks from their new album, ahead of its official release.

The setlist for the night was as follows (according to Setlist.fm):

  • “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)”
  • “My Own Summer (Shove It)”
  • “my mind is a mountain” (Live debut)
  • “Diamond Eyes”
