Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has candidly confessed to feeling “a little bit” of regret about organizing the band’s upcoming 50th-anniversary reunion, admitting that he is “brave or stupid” to return to the stage after nine years away.
Speaking on “Steve And Rik’s POTcast,” hosted by Steve Whiteman (Kix) and Rik Parks, Snider opened up about the anxiety of living up to the band’s legacy and the physical toll of performing at age 70.
The decision to reunite, he revealed, was entirely his own, spurred by a recent medical event. “Why am I doing a reunion with Twisted Sister? [Sighs] I’ll say that it was my idea… I had a little bit of a health scare,” Snider said. “I’m 70 years old, and I’m, like, ‘Do I wanna go out like that, go silently, or do I wanna go kicking and screaming?'”
He recounted the shock of his bandmates when he reached out. “I picked up the phone and I called up John [Jay Jay French] and Eddie [Ojeda]… and said, ‘What do you think about getting together?’ And they couldn’t believe I was suggesting it, ’cause I told ’em, ‘[It’s] not happening. [It will] never happen.'”
However, Snider was honest about his current feelings: “Am I regretting it? A little bit right now, sorry to say. [Laughs]”
The singer expressed concern about his vocal range and physical endurance compared to the band’s farewell in 2016.
“I know that I’ve lost a note. My voice is powerful as f**k. But I’m missing my top notes… And damn if I’m not aching,” he admitted. “For four songs. Yeah, I’m great for four songs. But 90 minutes, 75 minutes, 60 minutes. That’s a lot.”
He also highlighted the high physical standard he set for himself during their last run. “I was 175 pounds, and I was shredded… I’d take my shirt off at every show and people would go, ‘Damn, look at that guy.'”
His biggest fear now is shattering that image. “But I never wanna be that guy where people go, ‘Yeah, time’s passed,’ and make people feel old, just looking at me on stage… I feel a great weight to make sure I’m in shape… to get there and not let people down. I don’t wanna do it.”
To prepare, Snider revealed he has built a “family compound” in North Carolina and plans to “start weekly rehearsing the set with a local band” to get back into fighting shape.
Twisted Sister is scheduled to perform at several major European festivals in 2026, including Sweden Rock, Copenhell, and Graspop Metal Meeting.
