Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth made an unannounced appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Friday, April 10. The 71-year-old rock icon joined singer Teddy Swims on stage in Indio, California, to perform the classic Van Halen hit “Jump.”

Teddy Swims performed on a unique stage set designed to look like an apartment, complete with a living room, bedroom, and a functioning front door. Using a doorbell sound effect, he welcomed a trio of surprise guests throughout his set. Before David Lee Roth‘s arrival, Joe Jonas stepped through the door to sing the Jonas Brothers‘ “When You Look Me In The Eyes,” followed by Vanessa Carlton performing her 2001 track “A Thousand Miles.”

When the doorbell rang a final time, David Lee Roth entered wearing a leather vest and his signature grin. Teddy Swims introduced him to the crowd, shouting:

“Oh my God! It’s David Lee Roth from the best f**king band of all time, Van Halen!”

The duo then delivered a loose and playful rendition of “Jump,” laughing off a missed musical cue during the performance.

This year’s main-stage headliners include Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber, and Karol G. The festival has a long history of unannounced sets, recently featuring surprise appearances from Weezer and Ed Sheeran in 2025, Blink-182 in 2023, and Arcade Fire in 2022.

David Lee Roth‘s festival cameo comes just days before the launch of his 30-date North American solo tour. The trek begins on April 16 in Airway Heights, Washington, with April dates scheduled in California, Arizona, and Texas. The tour will continue through May and June with stops in Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, Ontario, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, before a scheduled August appearance at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip in South Dakota.

Roth has spent the last few years revisiting his legacy. In 2022, he entered Henson Recording Studio in Hollywood to record “live in the studio” versions of 14 classic Van Halen tracks, including staples like “Jump,” “Panama,” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love.” These sessions were notable for their “no samples” and “no Auto-Tune” approach, aiming to capture the raw energy of the band’s early days.
