Disturbed frontman David Draiman has issued a new, direct statement to clarify the reasons for the band’s recently announced hiatus, forcefully refuting media speculation that the break is due to recent personal controversies. Draiman insists the decision was based purely on exhaustion and that the band’s internal relationship is stronger than ever.
The clarification comes in response to widespread analysis linking the band’s decision to “take a nice long break” with a tumultuous period for Draiman, who has faced significant public backlash in recent months.
In a new social media post, Draiman shut down any alternative narratives.
“For the record; we’re taking a break because we’re tired, period,” Draiman stated. “Any spin by the media is just that… spin. We’re all doing great, and are on great terms — closer than ever, actually.”
He also emphasized the success of their recent run, which was the “The Sickness 25” anniversary tour. “The European tour was the biggest of our career. We played to packed arenas every night. Let’s do it again sometime?”
Draiman’s need to “set the record straight” follows his initial hiatus announcement on October 30. That announcement was immediately framed by media reports against the backdrop of recent controversies. The backlash began after the singer posted a photo of himself signing an artillery shell reportedly intended for use by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The public criticism intensified during an online feud with the Irish rap collective Kneecap and continued when Draiman was reportedly booed during a guest appearance at Black Sabbath‘s farewell concert. Actor John Cusack also referred to the singer as “psychotic,” and the band canceled a show in Vorst Nationaal on October 15.
The original announcement, posted as the tour wrapped, was more reflective. Draiman wrote at the time: “Not sure when we will be headed back out. We all need a nice long break. Hope to see you when we do,” adding he was “Looking forward to being with family and friends. Taking a nice long break.”
