Dave Mustaine Wants To Be An Actor And Teach Guitar After Megadeth: ‘I’ve Been Gifted. I Wouldn’t Be This Good On My Own’

“I’ve already done a ton of stuff on TV… so I’m very accustomed to being in front of the camera,” he said. “I think that might be fun to do.”

Dave Mustaine Interview 2025

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is looking ahead to the end of his legendary thrash metal band. However, fans do not need to panic just yet. Last year, in an interview with Kerrang!, the singer explained that the band’s final tour will take a long time and could last anywhere from three to five years.

Even though the farewell tour is just starting, Mustaine already knows what he wants to do next. He is setting his sights on Hollywood.

Speaking with Classic Rock (via Guitar.com), the frontman said he wants to take his acting seriously once Megadeth is finally over.

“I wouldn’t mind studying acting.”

Mustaine is not a stranger to the camera. He previously played a villain named Torchy Thompson in the 2001 television show “Black Scorpion.” He also did voice acting for a 2017 movie called “Halloween Pu**y Trap Kill Kill,” and he has appeared on several game shows and sitcoms over the years. Because of this past work, he feels ready to do more.

“I’ve already done a ton of stuff on TV… so I’m very accustomed to being in front of the camera,” he said. “I think that might be fun to do.”

In a very surprising twist, the heavy metal icon even admitted that he would be willing to chop off his famous long red hair for a movie. However, he noted that he would only do it for the perfect role.

“If they asked me to cut my hair, I’d be willing to do it! But it would have to be for a guaranteed part – and a big part.”

Acting is not his only plan for the future. Mustaine also wants to spend his retirement teaching other guitar players.

“I really want to share my gift with younger musicians,” Dave said.

He added that he is happy to teach anyone who is willing to learn his specific style, no matter how old they are.

“Actually, it doesn’t even have to be a younger musician. If it’s somebody that’s a little bit older and they want to learn what it is that makes Dave tick, I don’t care about their date of birth, I just want to be able to share.”

The frontman stayed humble about his incredible guitar skills, explaining that his talent comes from a higher place.

“I’ve been gifted. I wouldn’t be this good on my own.”
