Dave Mustaine Reflects On First-Ever Live Performance Of Megadeth’s ‘Tipping Point’: ‘I Was A Little Nervous’

The performance marked a bold moment in the band’s farewell chapter, and frontman Dave Mustaine admitted it came with a few jitters.

Megadeth Amsterdam Live 2025

Megadeth’s European tour with Disturbed delivered a surprise for fans in the Netherlands when the legendary thrash outfit debuted their new single “Tipping Point” live for the very first time. The performance marked a bold moment in the band’s farewell chapter, and frontman Dave Mustaine admitted it came with a few jitters.

Speaking to Megadeth mascot Vic Rattlehead’s Instagram account, Mustaine shared, “I was a little nervous about playing it because we hadn’t played it live yet. And I always get a little nervous whenever we play a song for the first time. But it went off without a hitch and the fans really liked it.”

Originally, the band had planned to hold off until their UK dates, but the energy in Amsterdam proved too electric to resist. “We were so excited because of the fans, their approval of the song and how many people are really responding in a positive way for ‘Tipping Point’. So we just couldn’t wait anymore,” Mustaine added.

Before launching into the track, Mustaine addressed the crowd with a grin: “So, we have a new record coming out. And we have a new single that’s out right now. And we’re gonna play that song the first time ever right now.”

“Tipping Point” is the lead single from Megadeth’s upcoming self-titled album, due out January 23, 2026. The release will arrive via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in collaboration with Frontiers Label Group’s BLKIIBLK label, following the band’s acclaimed 2022 record The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!

The new album also carries emotional weight — it’s Megadeth’s final studio release. Mustaine confirmed back in August that the band will embark on a global farewell tour in 2026, aiming to celebrate their legacy with fans around the world.

“I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans, and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them,” Mustaine said in his announcement. “We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world.”

In addition to the album and tour, Mustaine is preparing to release a new memoir next year, with more details expected soon.
