Former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made a surprise appearance during Sepultura‘s May 29 concert at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California, joining the band onstage for a jam of the instrumental track “Kaiowas“. Fan-shot footage of the collaboration is available below. The Los Angeles show marked the final date of the North American leg of Sepultura‘s “Celebrating Life Through Death” farewell tour, which also featured support from Exodus, Biohazard, and Tribal Gaze.
Earlier this week, Sepultura officially confirmed the date and location for the absolute final performance of their historic career. The concluding show of their massive “Celebrating Life Through Death” global farewell tour will take place on November 7 at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu (Pacaembu Stadium) in São Paulo, Brazil.
The band announced the milestone event directly to their fans through their official social media channels, sharing the following statement regarding the upcoming concert:
“On November 7th, Sepultura will take over the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu for the final show in the band’s history.”
“One final night. A historic celebration. More than epic.”
“More information coming soon.”
The extensive farewell tour serves as a global celebration of Sepultura’s influential four-decade career. The final chapter of their live history officially commenced on March 1, 2024, with a sold-out performance in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. That initial show also served as the formal introduction of the band’s current drummer, Greyson Nekrutman, who joined the lineup following his acclaimed tenure with crossover thrash veterans Suicidal Tendencies.
While the band is actively in the midst of saying goodbye to the road, they have remained highly productive in the studio. Just last month, Sepultura released a brand-new EP titled The Cloud Of Unknowing via Nuclear Blast. The release features the new singles “The Place” and “Beyond The Dream“. The latter track notably features a special collaboration with Sérgio Britto and Tony Bellotto of the legendary Brazilian rock band Titãs.
To permanently commemorate their final journey, Sepultura is also in the process of recording a massive live compilation album. The ambitious project aims to capture the band’s peak stage energy by recording 40 different songs across 40 different cities throughout the duration of the world tour.
The remaining dates on the “Celebrating Life Through Death” tour represent the absolute final opportunity for North American and European audiences to experience the band’s live legacy before they officially conclude their touring career.
