Cleopatra Records is pressing on with its careful trawl through Glenn Danzig‘s catalog, and the next entry is a heavyweight one. The label has lined up a detailed reissue of Danzig‘s 2010 album Deth Red Sabaoth, set to reach shops on August 21.
The record holds a notable place in the band’s timeline. It was Danzig‘s ninth studio album and the first new full-length since 2004’s Circle Of Snakes, and it went on to become the group’s biggest chart success since Danzig 4, released 16 years earlier. The self-financed album also reshaped the band’s sonic template into something rawer and more analog. Much of that came down to gear: Glenn had recently picked up a set of 1970s Kustom tuck ‘n’ roll bass amps and ran his guitar straight through them, chasing a fully organic tone.
Backed by Type O Negative drummer Johnny Kelly and Prong‘s Tommy Victor, Glenn made a simple pledge ahead of the release: “You’ll hear real reverb, real tremolo on this album,” and the results bore that out.
Commercially, Deth Red Sabaoth hit Number 3 on both the U.S. independent and hard rock album charts and reached Number 35 on the Billboard Top 200. The original run came in only a handful of editions — a CD box set and a limited picture disc — which made it prized territory for the band’s collector base.
That scarcity has driven the secondary market hard. Some artists get collected simply because their releases exist; others earn it by demanding attention. Danzig sit firmly in the second group, and the numbers show it: original CDs now change hands for as much as $50, the picture disc runs around $150, and the Deth Red Sabaoth fanbox climbs to $250. Even Glenn‘s own 2022 vinyl reissue routinely sells for more than $100.
The new campaign looks poised to stoke that demand further. This time Deth Red Sabaoth arrives across seven separate physical formats, with packaging fit for one of Danzig‘s darkest and heaviest records:
