Deftones frontman Chino Moreno experienced an unexpected mishap during the band’s performance at Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, on Wednesday night. While performing 15 songs into their 19-song setlist, the vocalist and guitarist took a tumble onstage.
Ironically, the slip occurred during the band’s performance of “Hole In The Earth,” the lead single from their gold-certified 2006 album, Saturday Night Wrist. Despite the fall, the 52-year-old musician demonstrated his professional resilience, recovering almost instantly and continuing the vocal line without missing a single beat.
Chino Moreno is no stranger to the physical demands, and occasional hazards, of the Deftones live experience. Over the years, the singer has had several notable onstage falls, most significantly in 2017 when a misstep off the stage resulted in a broken foot.
Fortunately, this latest incident appeared to cause more of a bruise to his pride than any serious physical harm. Chino Moreno remained mobile and energetic for the final four songs of the evening, concluding the performance without further incident.
The Auckland show marked the conclusion of the Deftones headlining run across Australia and New Zealand. The group will now have a short break to recover before heading to East Asia for a highly anticipated trio of performances in Japan starting next week.
With tickets for the upcoming dates seeing high demand, the band is expected to bring the same intensity to Tokyo as they move into the next phase of their 2026 world tour.
