The anticipation for AC/DC‘s return to South America has reached fever pitch, penetrating even the most formal institutions of the Chilean government. On Wednesday morning, November 26, the changing of the guard ceremony at La Moneda Palace in Santiago was transformed into an unlikely rock concert, courtesy of the Orfeón Nacional de Carabineros de Chile.
In a historic break from tradition, the official police band of the Chilean National Police celebrated the rock legends’ impending arrival by performing a medley of their biggest anthems in Constitution Square. For the first time in the ensemble’s 96-year history, the marching band integrated a full rock setup—complete with electric guitars and a drum kit—to deliver thunderous renditions of “Highway to Hell”, “Back In Black”, and “Thunderstruck”.
The performance stunned onlookers and served as a high-volume prelude to AC/DC‘s highly anticipated Power Up world tour. The Australian giants are scheduled to take over Santiago’s Parque Estadio Nacional for two massive nights on March 11 and March 15, 2026. The demand for the band’s return is undeniable, with over 100,000 tickets already snatched up by eager fans.
The Orfeón Nacional, designated by decree as a national treasure, typically performs traditional repertoires during the changing of the guard. However, their decision to dedicate the entire musical program to the Young brothers’ riff-heavy catalog underscores the cultural impact of AC/DC‘s return to the region.
The band’s 2026 itinerary resumes in late February with a run through South America before heading to Mexico and a comprehensive North American leg in the summer.
