Chad Gray Details $3,000 ‘Once-In-A-Lifetime’ Fan Experience: ‘I Don’t Think This Has Ever Been Done Before’

In a new interview, Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray has offered a detailed look into the exclusive, $3,000 “pre-show makeup experience” he is offering to fans on the band’s “L.D. 50 25th Anniversary” tour. He defended the high price tag by explaining that it is not a typical meet-and-greet, but a “full blown 1 hour hang session” that he believes is unprecedented in its level of access.

Speaking with Riff magazine, Gray explained that his lengthy, three-hour pre-show makeup ritual has always made traditional meet-and-greets impossible. This new package, limited to one fan (and their guest) per city, was his solution.

“I don’t think this has ever been done before, like somebody giving to somebody this much of their time,” Gray said, distinguishing his offer from typical VIP packages. “I know there are people that do guitar giveaways and bass giveaways and stuff like that, but you probably just hand off the guitar, take a picture and that’s it. This is, actually, I get to sit and talk with them.”

Gray shared his experience from the first meet-and-greet of the tour, describing it as a success for both him and the fan.

“I did my first one last night. It was so great. The dude was funny. We listened some of his music and did a bit of a Q&A,” he recounted. “They get to see the process about getting those appliances on that I wear on my face and just getting it all going… For me, if you’re a really big Mudvayne fan, I’m hopefully gonna create a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This will never happen again.”

A significant part of the package is an exclusive piece of merchandise: a solid sterling silver “Mudagram” necklace from Room101, identical to the one Gray himself wears. He stressed that this item will never be sold commercially and is exclusive to this package.

“I’ve been wearing that necklace… since we came back. And I’m offering those in the meet-and-greet, and that is the only place you will get it. I will never release them. They will never be sold after this,” he stated. “So if all the meet-and-greets sell out… you’ll have one of 32 in the world.”

The “L.D. 50 25th Anniversary” tour, which has been underway since September, is set to conclude this weekend on October 26 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
