British death metal legends Carcass recently took to social media to poke fun at their billing on an upcoming European festival poster. The band is scheduled to perform as one of the headliners at the 2026 edition of the Kilkim Žaibu festival, set to take place between June 25 and June 27 in Ukmergė, Lithuania.
However, after looking at the event’s promotional poster, the band noticed they were billed underneath Blood Fire Death, an all-star tribute act dedicated to the music of Bathory and its late visionary leader, Quorthon.
Taking the billing hierarchy in stride, Carcass shared the poster on their social platforms and offered a highly sarcastic comment regarding the situation.
“Great. You know you’ve ‘made it’ when a covers band is above you on the poster,” the band wrote, capping off the statement with a laughing emoji.
Despite the self-deprecating joke, Blood Fire Death is no ordinary cover band. The project serves as an exclusive, rotating collective featuring several highly prominent figures from the Norwegian and Swedish black metal scenes. Depending on the members’ availability, the lineup frequently boasts legendary musicians such as vocalist Erik “E” Danielsson (Watain), guitarists Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved) and Rune “Blasphemer” Eriksen (Vltimas, ex-Mayhem), alongside drummers Jan Axel “Hellhammer” Blomberg (Mayhem) and Bård “Faust” Eithun (ex-Emperor).
Meanwhile, Carcass remains a powerhouse on the road. The band has been touring heavily across the globe in support of their highly acclaimed 2021 studio album, Torn Arteries. Recently, the band completed their “North American Putrefaction Tour” alongside Brujeria, Necrot, and Hedonist, as well as massive “Krushers Of The World” spring 2026 run with Kreator.
