Candlebox will release a new single, “I Remember Everything“, on Friday, September 25. It is the first Candlebox recording to feature guitarist Peter Klett since the band’s 2012 album Love Stories & Other Musings, closing a 14-year gap in a partnership that produced the group’s best-known work.
It also lands three years after the band told its audience it was finished.
The single is an independent release, produced by Kemble Walters at Good Noise Studio and mastered by Jeremy Costa at Backward Clock Sound Studio.
“Super stoked to be releasing new Candlebox music and having my buddy Pete back in the saddle next to me is an absolute treat!” frontman Kevin Martin said.
Klett added: “It feels so good to be writing new Candlebox music. I’m really excited for what comes next.”
Klett had been away from the band for roughly a decade, having stepped back to raise his family. He approached Martin about returning in spring 2025.
“I’d like to come back and jump in the saddle,” Klett told him, according to Martin. The singer said he answered: “The seat has always been there for you.”
That decision reversed what had looked like the end of the band. Candlebox released The Long Goodbye in 2023 as their final album, followed it with a farewell tour and issued an expanded tour edition of the record in 2024. Klett appeared on neither. Martin has said an invitation to join Bush‘s “Greatest Hits Tour” in 2024 alongside Jerry Cantrell filled the intervening period, and that by the time Klett signalled his return he had concluded the band still had work left in it.
“I Remember Everything” arrives a little over a week into the band’s “Can’t Quit You” tour, a 32-date North American run that opened on September 17 at The Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri and closes on October 30 at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. It is the band’s largest headline tour in years. The Mountain Goats, Sponge, The Verve Pipe, Sweet Water and American Blonde provide support across select dates.
Candlebox formed in Seattle in 1990 around Martin and drummer Scott Mercado, with Klett joining a few months later. Their self-titled debut, released in 1993, went quadruple platinum and carried “Far Behind“, “You“, “Cover Me” and “Change“. Martin is the only member to have appeared throughout the band’s history.
