Jason Bowld, the drummer for Welsh metal heavyweights Bullet For My Valentine, has provided a major update on the progress of the band’s eighth studio album. Speaking in a new interview with “Drum Dog” at The Europe Drum Show in April 2026, Jason Bowld confirmed that the initial recording phases are nearing completion, with a strategic release window already in mind.

According to the drummer, the band plans to spend the remainder of the year finalizing the production and setting the stage for a massive promotional campaign that will include a string of several singles before the full record arrives.

“I’ve just finished recording drums for it. And it’s gonna be finished probably by June. And then we’re looking to release it in January [of 2027]. We need to time it right and build up promo and have five singles, maybe, before it comes out — one every month — and build it up. ‘Cause once the machine starts, that’s it for 14, 18 months. We’re off then. And it has to be set up right,” Jason Bowld stated.

Last December, Bullet For My Valentine frontman Matt Tuck spoke with Igor Miranda of Rolling Stone Brasil regarding the creative identity of the new material. Matt Tuck suggested that the upcoming LP draws inspiration from several of the band’s most successful eras, blending the aggression of their recent work with the melodic sensibilities of their classic records.

“If I had to describe what the album feels like, it’s a cross between the last album [2021’s Bullet For My Valentine], [2010’s] Fever and [2005’s] The Poison,” Tuck said at the time. It really feels like it’s a mash-up of all those really big moments for our band. And it’s not something we’ve tried to do: that’s just how this writing process has been. We’ve just kind of just gone with it. I think genuinely this album is going to appeal to a lot of people. I think it’s got all the right ingredients that people have loved about Bullet For My Valentine. Could it be the most definitive Bullet record yet? Possibly, yeah. We’re excited.”

Guitarist Michael Paget (also known as Padge) previously discussed the technical side of the record with Neil Jones of “TotalRock” during the 2025 Download festival. Michael Paget revealed that the band is experimenting with lower tunings than ever before, including a track in drop G, to ensure the new music feels “fresh” for both the band and the listeners.

“It’s gonna be super heavy. We mess around with some crazy tuning on this one, something we haven’t done before. So it’s gonna be really interesting and fresh for the fans — and us. I think [we have a song in] drop G [tuning]. But, yeah, all of the usual Bullet trademarks are there. It’s in our DNA, so hooks, the vocal melodies, the huge choruses, big guitars, all the standard stuff’s gonna be there, but definitely different to what we’ve ever done before,” Paget explained.

He added that the band is committed to avoiding creative stagnation: “We’ve always said we never wanna make the same album twice. One, I think it’s cop-out because we’ve already done it. We’ll never do what The Poison did for a debut album. And we like to keep it fresh for ourselves and challenge ourselves, make it interesting for the fans.”

The news of a new album follows a busy period for Bullet For My Valentine, who spent much of 2025 celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal debut album, The Poison. The band embarked on joint tours with Trivium, who were similarly marking two decades of their breakthrough record, Ascendancy.

Originally released in 2005, The Poison established Bullet For My Valentine as leaders of the modern metal scene, peaking at number 21 on the U.K. charts and eventually achieving gold status. The band’s most recent studio output was the deluxe version of their self-titled album in August 2022, which included the track “Stitches” and four other new songs.

With drum tracking now complete, the focus of the BFMV camp shifts to the final recording sessions in June and the subsequent rollout of new music starting later this year.
